ABOUT ROBYN

Robyn Mowatt is a senior editor, consultant, and writer. Her work covers the intricacies of Black culture, designers of color, music, and entertainment. Mowatt has written for Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Rolling Stone, Vogue, NPR, The Cut, NylonByrdie, ESSENCE, and various other web publications. At ESSENCE as the Senior Contributing Fashion Editor, she expanded the fashion verticals’ global reach, centered coverage of African platforms, including Industrie Africa, The Folklore, and countless African designers. Additionally, during Mowatt’s time there, she and the talented contributors she worked with filed essential features, profiles, and essays, while focusing on costume designers, the convergence of sports and style, and regularly highlighting emerging brands. If you’re curious about her fashion background, she’s also held roles at Elle, The Cut, and Marie Claire. She’s been featured in the CFDA, Who What Wear, InStyle, AfroTech, and has appeared on two episodes of the hip-hop podcast Breaking Atoms dissecting Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt.


PHILOSOPHY

Robyn is a firm believer in the power of mentoring. Throughout her life and professional career, she’s been poured into by family members and professionals who she strongly feels are integral and directly correlated to what type of leader and editor she is today. During her journey, she’s mentored journalists and writers who have gone on to work at Huffington Post, ESSENCE, and Okayplayer. Mentees Robyn has poured into have also written for The New York Times, The LA Times, Ebony, Alt Press, Complex, Vogue, BLANC, and more.
